ABSTRACT
Introduction: Tracheal stenosis is a relatively uncommon pathology creating dramatic and lethal situations in those who suffer from it. One of the complications that may occur with surgical treatment are restenosis.
Methods. A descriptive study was carried out, in a total of 51 patients, of both sexes, with the diagnosis of tracheal stenosis in the General Surgery Service of Surgical Medical Research Center in the period from January 1995 to January 2017. The surgical technique used included the exeresis of the stenotic zone with terminal terminal anastomosis in which a standardized sequence was maintained at the different moments of the surgery with the purpose of avoiding damage to healthy tissue. The variables evaluated were: clinical manifestations, diseases associated with endotracheal intubations, etiology and location of the stenosis, location of the stenosed tracheal ring, surgical technique used, degree of stenosis, complications and results of surgical treatment. Patients with benign pathologies were followed clinically and endoscopically for two years.
Results: In relation to the surgical technique, the exact place to perform the incision in the trachea and resect only the injured part, preserving the greatest amount of healthy tissue the tension in the suture line (cause the restenosis) was avoided after which lateral dissection was made below 0,5 cm, important to preserve the vascularization of the tissue, all of which would avoid subsequent complications.
Conclusions. In this study, no patient evolved to restenosis.
