ABSTRACT
Introduction: The laryngeal leukoplakias are white lesions on the vocal cords whose diagnosis is only clinically and can be from accumulation of mucus to premalignant and malignant lesions (8%), hence the importance of diagnosis early. They are usually associated with risk factors smoking is the most common. Objective: Describe a series of cases of laryngeal leukoplakia with the association of smoking, alcoholism, laryngo-pharyngeal reflux and exposure to adverse work environment. Method: Descriptive clinical study of a series of cases. Results: Studied 26 cases finding that 19 patients were exposed to risk factors combined and 7 to one only. As isolated risk factors, alcoholism was found in 21 patients, smoking in 16 patients, solvents in three, and striking that laryngo-pharyngeal reflux disease was a chronic irritant factor in 10 patients. Conclusions: Any adult with dysphonia of minimum duration of three weeks should be adequately evaluated of the vocal cords. The three major identifiable risk factors are smoking, alcoholism and laryngo-pharyngeal reflux.REFERENCES
