Meditation, mindfulness and their biopsychosocial effects. literature review

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this literature review is to present recent
evidence on the biopsychosocial effects of meditation,
mindfulness and other meditation techniques that require
relaxation. This review found evidence of multiple benefits of
these practices for general welfare, dysfunctional emotional
states and processes, as well as for the cognitive and physical
symptoms of chronic diseases. The methodology utilized was to
identify evidence-based studies in these areas. Specifically,
children and adolescent studies that included randomized client
or patient samples, the use of control groups and properly
applied quantitative as well as qualitative measures were
considered. Following this review, recommendations are made
for further research, instruments and
measures that would be useful in meditation and mindfulness
research. The psychological profile of people trained in these
practices and other possible intervening variables indicators
would be logical research issues since they are not apparent in
the relevant scientific literature.
