ABSTRACT
There is a 20% to 35% prevalence of erectile dysfunction (ED) in the general population and it can be 50% to 70% in
patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD). ED association with CVD risk factors can be explained by penile vessel
endothelial damage, given that these vessels play a crucial
role in achieving and maintaining erection. The presence and severity of ED is correlated with the presence of CVD and is an early symptom of atherogenic disease. A large
number of deaths and complications associated with CVD
have been found in ED patients, therefore they should be
directly and aggressively studied for CVD in order to receive early diagnosis and treatment.
