Disfunción eréctil y enfermedad cardiovascular: ¿qué sabemos hasta el momento?

RESUMEN
La prevalencia de la disfunción eréctil (DE) abarca del
20% a 35% de la población general, y en pacientes con
enfermedad cardiovascular (ECV), ésta puede ser del
50% a 70%. La asociación de DE con los factores de riesgo
para ECV puede ser explicada por daño endotelial de
los vasos peneanos, los cuales tienen un papel crucial
para lograr y mantener una erección. La presencia y
severidad de la DE se correlaciona con la presencia de
ECV, y es un síntoma precoz de enfermedad aterogénica.
Por lo tanto, todo paciente con DE tiene que ser estudiado
de forma directa y agresiva para diagnosticar o tratar
de manera precoz la ECV, ya que se ha encontrado que
presentan un mayor número de muertes y complicaciones
asociadas a esta.
