ABSTRACT
Our objective was the process of medical administrative reengineering for a route to change, to live for a change, and reexamine a new route for a new beginning to do a better job and create better service at the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS). Cases of extended leave according to approximate recovery times required were analyzed in two medical zones of the IMSS in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The study’s target population was identified on the basis of conglomerate sampling, in which two medical zones were chosen (Hospital General de Zona 14 and Hospital General de Zona 89, with their corresponding medical units). During the period being researched, we included total work accidents that occurred among staff in all job categories. Main results demonstrated that in both medical zones at the beginning there were no significant statistic data and after intervention of medical administrative reengineering, an advantage was demonstrated in the experimental zone (18.7 ± 10.9 days) above the control medical zone (26.8 ± 9.2 days). Within this, we observed a significant statistical difference amog medical zones. When comparing final values of average days of extended leave in the experimental group that received intervention with control group, a significant difference was observed that was favorable to the experimental group.
