Close fractures of the tibial diaphysis

ABSTRACT

A bibliographic review and update on the handling of patients with Closed Fracture of the Tibial Diaphysis was conducted. Issues like classification, wrong prognosis factors, and alternative treatments like surgical and/or conservative handling were considered. As regards the latter, it involves plaster cast for the most part whereas the former involves options like intramedullary nailing, AO plate fixation and external fixation. In both cases, guidelines as to the fixation methods are provided. Finally, an algorithm for the handling of the tibial diaphysis patient is described.
