ABSTRACT
Introduction: Neuropsychological rehabilitation is a discipline that deals with the recovery of cognitive functions after brain damage, and it has received central interest since the first observations about cognitive deficits and the possibility of recovery of individuals with central nervous system injury. Attention and memory deficits, as well as new learning difficulties, are among the most frequent problems that occur in people with central nervous system injury. Objective: To identify how a system of activities influences the compensation of the deficit in higher psychic processes in patients with ataxia secondary to cranioencephalic trauma.
Methods: The study was carried out on a sample of 15 people with special educational needs: 9 women and 6 men, an average age of 42.7 years (29 minimum and 38 maximum), and affected psychic processes. The studies of the medical records, the initial and final neuropsychological tests, as well as the initial exploration of these were analyzed. In order to diagnose manifest deficit, we applied the Miller analogies test, test of Intelligence for Adults (WAIS), Wechsler Memory Scale scores pre-and post-ECT, and the Crespo test, Selective Crossing out of letter a.
Results: At the end of the intervention, higher records were achieved in each of the items evaluated.
Conclusions: The therapeutic system created favors the compensation of the deficit of psychic functions and facilitates a better interrelation with the environment.
