ABSTRACT
Purpose: Fuchs' cyclitis is a non-granulomatous anterior, chronic, unilateral process mostly affecting subjects within the 3
rd and 4
th decades of life with unknown ethiology. Clinical features include blurred vision, iris heterochromic, keratic precipitates, low to moderate anterior chamber swelling, cataract and glaucoma.
Objective: Determinate results of phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens in patients with Fuchs' heterochromic cyclitis in the Hospital General de Mexico (HGM).
Methods: An observational, descriptive, retrospective study was designed in order to determine the visual outcome with the phacoemulsification technique and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation in subjects diagnosed with Fuchs' cyclitis. and cataract.
Results: 146 files of patients with uveitis from January 2003 to June 2005 were classified and included in the study. Ten subjects were clinically diagnosed with Fuchs' cyclitis and cataract and seven had phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation. The age average was 36.7 years (ranging from 28 to 50 years), three were males and four females. During the three months follow up period three subjects improve the visual function to 20/40 and four to 20/80 (mean improvement in Snellen's chart of three lines). Two subjects developed glaucoma and needed filtering surgery and one subject had with a posterior capsule rupture with lens sulcus fixation. Preoperative normal intraocular pressures were on four patients and six in the follow up period of three months.
Conclutions: Similar results were noticed from previous reports in literature. Phacoemulsification with posterior chamber lens in patients with Fuchs' cyclitis maintain a good visual acuity prognostic
