Aumento en la prevalencia de obesidad en niños y adolescentes de la consulta ambulatoria.

RESUMEN
Objetivo: Conocer el comportamiento del sobrepeso y obesidad en niños y adolescentes que acudieron a la consulta ambulatoria del Hospital Infantil del Estado de Sonora, durante los años de 1985, 1995 y 2003.
Material y Métodos: Se revisaron los expedientes clínicos de 2651, pacientes que acudieron por primera vez a la consulta ambulatoria, se investigaron los datos antropométricos para obtener el índice de masa corporal.
Resultados: Se encontró aumento tanto de sobrepeso y obesidad en los años considerados, en escolares la obesidad incrementó de 3.3% a 18.3% (p0.0001). En el total del grupo estudiado, el aumento de sobrepeso y obesidad fue de un 98% de l985 al 2003 (p0.0001).
Conclusiones: Existe un aumento de la obesidad en niños que asisten a la consulta ambulatoria del Hospital Infantil del Estado de Sonora. El aumento en el porcentaje de sobrepeso y obesidad infantil fue evidente entre 1985 y 2003. Se sugieren acciones para tratar de revertir esta tendencia.
