ABSTRACT
Objective: To describe the evolution and perinatal outcomes of a case series of patients
with a diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension and complication with Eisenmenger
syndrome.
Materials and Methods: Retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study of
consecutive case series of patients with a diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension or
Eisenmenger's syndrome attended comprehensively from admission to the end of pregnancy
at the Instituto Nacional de Perinatología Isidro Espinosa de los Reyes between
the months of January 2015 to January 2019.
Results: The average age of the mothers was 25.79 years (15 to 40 years, SD ± 7.19)
and the average weeks of pregnancy on admission to the INPer was 22. 5 of 34 patients
were classified as having mild pulmonary hypertension, 9 of 34 as having moderate
pulmonary hypertension and 20 of 34 as having severe pulmonary hypertension. 9 of
34 cases had Eisenmenger syndrome.
Conclusions: Pulmonary hypertension and Eisenmenger's syndrome during pregnancy
continue to be the factors that cause the most serious complications and maternal
and fetal mortality. This makes it necessary to care for these patients with an individualized
approach, in the hands of an expert, interdisciplinary team, in highly specialized
centers, in order to improve the prognosis for the mother and perinatal outcomes.
