ABSTRACT
Tobacco consumption is one of the most important factors that increase the morbidity in the aesthetic or reconstructive breast operations, due to the multisystemic effects which result in tissular hypoxia and alterations in wound healing. In this retrospective study, we describe the injuries produced by tobacco consumption and how they were solved. We affirm that adequate treatment and preoperative medical education results in a reduction of morbidity in the reconstructive plastic procedures.
