ABSTRACT
Clinical databases are gaining popularity as a tool for providing information and education in the health care field. They could become relevant educational and research resources if they incorporate the most successful interactive computerized students education techniques that have been substantiated in research studies. In advising the use of these resources, medical educators should be equipped with the methodology about how this technology can be used effectively. In this paper, we propose a clinical database as a general architecture for creating knowledge-based medical training systems to teach diagnosis and treatment. This model should be studied for usefulness, acceptability and impact on educational processes and outcomes. These computerized educational interventions can lead to improved learning in several major areas of care, and appear not to be a substitute for, but a valuable supplement to, face-to-face time with medical educators.
