ABSTRACT
Hallux valgus in adolescents includes the presence of the epiphyses, the etiology and the difficulty in deciding the moment of surgery. Scarf's osteotomy is used to reduce the intermetatarsal angle using a Z-cut. The objective of this work was to determine the results of radiographic correction of patients with hallux valgus of the adolescent treated with the scarf technique. A retrospective study was performed, including 15 patients treated surgically with the McBride technique and scarf type osteotomy. The radiographic criteria evaluated were: intermetatarsal angles and metatarsophalangeal angle. 19 hallux were treated, the average age was 14.7 years. The intermetatarsal angle was preoperative of 15.3
o and postoperative of 10.5
o. The preoperative metatarsophalangeal angle was 35.2
o and postoperative 25.7
o. Under statistical support (P); the correction of the hallux valgus of the adolescent and the metatarsus primus varus is recommended with the scarf and McBride osteotomy, which are no longer compatible with the radiological correction of the deformity, with a low risk of relapse and complications.
