ABSTRACT
Four of the most prevalent autoimmune diseases in Mexico were reviewed in this work. We
focused especially on the activity of the immune system (T and B lymphocytes) to understand
how an imbalance in its function could trigger a cascade of self-harmful reactions. Special
attention was given to Parkinson’s disease, in which an autoimmune component was recently
described.
