Key words:

Mongolic spot, dermatoses in neonates.

ABSTRACT

Objective.
To know the frequency of the mongolic spot in neonates born in a General Hospital.
Material and methods. During seven months 3,760 infants born in the hospital were examined. All were seen in the first 24 hours of life.
Results. The mongolic spot there was in 208 (5.5%) children. Their localization prevailed in the regions sacral (65.6%), lumbo-sacral (25.9%) and lumbar (7.6%). The aberrant localization of the spot was observed with a frequency of 8.6%.
Conclusions. The registered frequency was smaller than the informed one for other authors. However, the aberrant localization of the spot is lightly bigger that the one reported in the literature.
