Eficacia terapéutica con topiramato y valproato de magnesio en niños con síndrome de Lennox-Gastaut

RESUMEN
Objetivo. Conocer la eficacia del topiramato y valproato de magnesio en niños con el síndrome de Lennox-Gastaut (SLG).
Sujetos. Se estudiaron 11 niños con SLG, cuatro mujeres y siete hombres, todos tratados durante seis meses con estos medicamentos. Se registró el tipo de crisis convulsivas y los efectos adversos al tratamiento. En cada niño se llevó control elecroencefalográfico y de exámenes de laboratorio.
Resultados. La respuesta al tratamiento fue excelente en las tónico clónicas generalizadas y en las ausencias atípicas. En las crisis mioclónicas se obtuvo menor respuesta al tratamiento. Como efectos adversos se registraron en cinco niños (pérdida de peso, somnolencia, ataxia y trombocitopenia).
Conclusiones. El topiramato en combinación con valproato de magnesio es efectivo en el tratamiento de niños con el SLG de difícil control.
