ABSTRACT
Introduction: Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) defines a group of autosomal recessive congenital diseases. An imbalance between the hormones cortisol and ACTH give rise to the clinical manifestations of the disease. With the use of the Neonatal Screening Program, satisfactory results have been achieved in the early detection of patients with CAH. Knowledge about this nosological entity and its characteristics of the studied patients is of great importance for a better management of it. Objective: to characterize clinically and epidemiologically the patients diagnosed through the Neonatal Screening Program with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia in Villa Clara. Methods: a descriptive observational cross-sectional study with retrospective information search was performed. The universe was made up of all the patients who had a diagnosis of CAH and were treated in the Endocrinology service of the Pediatric Hospital "José Luis Miranda" during the period 2005 to 2017. The type of pregnancy, the sex of each individual were used as variables, the Tanner stage in which they were, the percentiles for height, weight and age, as well as the treatment used. These in turn were analyzed in descriptive tables and graphs. Results: the classic way of presenting the disease represented 58%. 100% of the cases used drug treatment. Conclusions: male patients with CAH outnumbered females in quantity. The most frequent clinical way of presenting this nosological entity was the classic one. A large number of patients with an inappropriate weight for their age and height were found.REFERENCES
