ABSTRACT
Autoimmunity is the loss of tolerance to self-antigens in an organism, which generates the
production of autoantibodies; however, their presence does not always indicate the existence of disease.
Rheumatic autoimmune diseases are a group of chronic conditions that share clinical and laboratory
features. The correct diagnosis of these diseases are based on the symptoms and clinical findings of patients
and their correlation with laboratory tests to confirm or rule out the disease, estimate its severity,
prognosis and monitoring the evolution.
