ABSTRACT
Background: Zika virus infection is transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes.
First isolated in 1947 in rhesus monkeys from the forest of Zika, Uganda.
Objective: To identify the characteristics of patients with Zika during the outbreak
occurred in 2016 in Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan.
Material and Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study with population entitled
of the HGZMF 12 of Lazaro Cárdenas in 2016; there were characterized the cases
included in the outbreak study that met the Zika operational definition.
Results: 700 cases were identified that met operational definition, of these 478
(68.29%) were female, with an average of 30.95 years, median of 31, mode of 37 and
standard deviation of 16.34. Of the 700 patients who met the operational definition,
in 26 of these the presence of zika virus infection was confirmed by PCR, with a confirmation
rate of 3.7%. Of the 26 cases confirmed by PCR, 84.6% were female and of
these, 72.7% were pregnant at the time of infection.
Conclusions: Zika virus infection was more frequent in women with 22 cases
confirmed by PCR; exanthema was the main symptom with 91.5% of the cases, followed
by pruritus, myalgias and conjunctivitis, this infection can occur asymptomatic
in 80% of cases.
