ABSTRACT
Objective. To describe the prevalence of healthcare-associated infections (HAIS) due to ESKAPE pathogens, at the Hospital
Juárez de México from 2013 to 2017.
Material and Methods. An observational, cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective study was designed; the
information was obtained from the Hospital Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Hospital Juárez.
Results. We studied 1 312 HAIS due to ESKAPE pathogens, 517 ventilator-associated pneumonia, 199 hospital-acquired
pneumonias, 110 cases of surgical site infection, 63 cases of catheter-related bloodstream infection and 22 cases of
catheter-associated urinary tract infection.
Conclusions. For hospital epidemiology, it should be a priority to create and strengthen the relationship with the
microbiology laboratory to implement a surveillance system for these pathogens; this is a fundamental pillar of epidemiological
surveillance.
