ABSTRACT
Introduction: The first description of the airport was in 1969 when Wheeless reported the first 4,000 cases of tubal ligation using the single port technique, it was reported that the healing was “so satisfactory that no scar was manifestly visible.” The first application of airport in general surgery was appendectomy in 25 patients by Pelosi in 1992 and in 2005 there is a new boom in airport surgery when Hirano introduced new articulated instruments.
Material and methods: Estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo y observacional, se realizaron 17 cirugías monopuerto, de las cuales 11 fueron colecistectomías, tres apendicetomías y tres plastias inguinales TAPP, se analizaron las siguientes variables: Age, sex, body mass index, surgical time, intraoperative complications, bleeding, conversions to conventional open or laparoscopic surgery, postoperative pain, length of hospital stay and postoperative complications.
Results: The sex corresponded to 14 (82%) females and three (18%) males. The average age was 24. Body mass index was 23 cm
2/kg on average, surgery time was 95 minutes with bleeding of 100 cm
3. The in-hospital stay was 28 hours, only one case required conversion to conventional laparoscopic surgery and two patients had surgical site infection.
Conclusions: Single port surgery has not demonstrated its full potential and remains a very fertile field of research where new research will provide the direction this technical modality will take in the future.
