ABSTRACT
Severe combined immunodeficiency comprises a variety of genetic defects that, with different patterns of cellular deficiency, are frequently lethal during the first years of life. However, it is now; throughout different techniques, a very treatable disease with excellent prognosis if recognized during the first three months of life. Advances in technology, the discovery and reliability of T-cell excision circles (TREC’s), and big-scale implementation have rended screening affordable mainly in the United States. In Mexico, diagnosis and treatment are also a reality; therefore aiming to screen for this disorders is an important step to prevent big-scale complications and derived costs.
