ABSTRACT
Introduction: The advantages of a dynamic paradigm in occupational health and safety at work, as well as systematic audiometry and spirometry, are evaluated as the first steps in prevention. Material and method: A total of 134 workers (104 audiometries and 30 spirometries), using an audiometer and a traditional spirometer, and the modified Fletcher method, were evaluated. The exams were performed by the same team, well qualified, under temperature, pressure and noise conditions. Results: There was an alarming frequency of hearing and respiratory diseases not related to age or seniority in the post, which leads to suspicion of a sustained exposure to risks: noise and dust. Conclusions and recommendations: A high frequency of hearing and respiratory disorders was the result of the research carried out; this company needs a training program and surveillance systems on work risks which will prevent professional hearing loss in many cases.REFERENCES
