ABSTRACT
There is a high rate of complications (ranging from 25 to 75%) that can occur during the surgery or not. Of these, 0.3-5.5% occur during primary surgery and 30% in revision surgery. Periprosthetic fractures can occur in the patella (0.6%), tibia (0.3%-0.5%) or femur (0.3%-2.5%). We need to know the risk factors in the transoperative or postoperative period. We have to use the different classification systems to choose the appropriate treatment of the fracture. It is always good to enter with more than one option of osteosynthesis or revision, since this type of surgery is very demanding in the transoperative period and it may be necessary to have a plan A, B, C, etcetera.
