ABSTRACT
Heart abnormalities are the most common anatomical defects, having an incidence of five to eight per 1,000 infants, including heart defects are abnormalities of the mitral valve, these complexes involving multiple segments of the valve and can be found associated or not with some other congenital malformations. In addition, the double mitral orifice (DMO) represents 1% of all congenital heart defects. This malformation is presented as the division of the mitral orifice into two anatomically distinct holes. The patients usually have no symptoms and they only present with a heart murmur. Because it is a rare congenital defect and difficult to diagnose, even more when it is isolated, it must be evaluated in an adequate manner to make a correct therapeutic decision. We present the case of a patient with a double mitral orifice with the objective of reviewing the diagnostic methods and the actualities in the treatment.
