Regularities of the professional improvement process

ABSTRACT
Introduction: professional improvement in the health sector plays a decisive role in the formation and development of its human resources.Objective: to identify the regularities of the process of professional improvement in the Polyclinic 1st of January of Consolation of the South.
Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out during 2016. The universe was of 218 professionals graduated by the national health system and the sample was selected in a simple stratified random manner, consisting of 109 professionals, with one year or more of work experience, willingness to participate and active work. The data obtained through the applied questionnaire were processed by the statistical program SPSSPC.
Results: the work experience in the health sector was of 16-20 years, the professionals transited through specialized courses in their majority. The correspondence between the health problems and the courses was not adequate. The quality of the activities was regular, the improvement in language was insufficient, the use of new technologies was inadequate and insufficient mastery of the methodology of scientific research. In most of the observed activities they do not use the problem method and the individual needs were not identified or attended to.
Conclusions: the professional improvement must be organized, planned and oriented to the solution of problems related to the updating and professionalization of the human capital for the acquisition of competences in the assistance, teaching and research services.
