ABSTRACT
The vagina hosts different bacterial species in large quantity that are known to be directly related to the maintenance of acid-base balance and protective function. The microorganisms that are frequently found in asymptomatic patients are Bacteroides, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Corynebacterium and mycoplasma species, among the most prominent. The predisposition to some infection due to the alteration of the microbiota is proven, with a decrease in regulatory species such as Doderlëin bacillus and an important increase in the concentration of strict anaerobic bacteria. The objective of the present study was the identification of the most frequent microorganisms in a patient with an active sexual life. A total of 695 patients were evaluated, who underwent cervical-vaginal exfoliative cytology (Papanicolaou) in the Laboratory of the Cellular Biology Department of the Faculty of Medicine. The most observed group was cocoid flora, in addition the Doderlëin bacillus was surpassed, which could be appreciated in almost 3 of every 10 patients studied. In 12.5% of the population, Gardnerella vaginalis, Toxoplasma gondii, Chlamidia trachomatis and Trichomonas vaginalis were found in decreasing manner. Gardnerella vaginalis was found to be part of the genital flora, confirming the presence of factors such as the failure of local defense mechanisms for disbiota. The finding of Leptohtrix actinomyces is controversial and could not be related to the use of IUD. The pathogenic microorganisms found with associated symptoms were Toxoplasma gondii, Chlamidia trachomatis and Trichomona vaginalis of which Candida was the only one associated to menopause and multigesta, the rest to promiscuity.REFERENCES
