ABSTRACT

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the 4 main ligaments of the knee, which mainly serves the function of stabilizing the joint, preventing the tibia from sliding forward in relation to the femur, and is composed of 2 ligament bundles. For the elaboration of this article, a bibliographic review was carried out on different topics intimately related to ACL, including anatomical bases, risk factors, mechanisms of injury, concomitant lesions, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment and prevention, with the objective of knowing and correctly carrying out both the diagnosis and the treatment of ACL lesions, thus facilitating their correct management and avoiding medical errors.
