ABSTRACT
Introduction: Whole body diffusion-weighted MRI is a complement of anatomic MRI and
provides a functional assessment of the disease and its quantification with no need of contrast;
at long term there are few risks and it is performed in a reasonably short time.
Objective: Analyze staging and treatment response in patients with non Hodgkin´s lymphoma
using whole body MRI with diffusion weighted images.
Material and Methods: Patients who had a baseline and interval MRI using whole body
diffusion protocol were included, with available Ris-Pacs system archives at the Hospital
General de México “Dr. Eduardo Liceaga”, performed from January 1st 2016 to June 30, 2017.
Results: Of the 10 patients who had whole body diffusion, only 8 were included, one was
left out for not having measurable lesions, and a second patient for not having the interval
study. The most common histology was Large Cell Lymphoma, the clinical stage with the
greatest distribution was stage IV. Partial treatment response was found in 87.5%.
Conclusions: It is considered that MRI is a good method for proper staging and assessment
of treatment response in patients with non Hodgkin´s Lymphoma, and possibly in
all other cancers; this study is considered as a pilot project on the topic, raising interest in
different medical fields.
