ABSTRACT
Introduction: positive coagulase staphylococcus is the main cause of bacterial infections that involve the bloodstream, the respiratory tract, the skin and soft tissues in patients. It is an important human pathogen that colonizes and infects hospitalized patients with diminished defenses and immunocompetent people in the community with great capacity to develop resistance to several antibiotics. Objective: to determine the antimicrobial resistance of positive coagulase staphylococcus in the different services of "Dr. Ambrosio Grillo Portuondo" Clinical-Surgical Hospital during 2015. Method: a descriptive and transversal study was carried out in hospitalized patients who presented symptoms and signs of infection caused by positive coagulase staphylococcus. Results: the services where the highest number of isolations was obtained corresponded to medicine, surgery and orthopedics with 68.1%, 13%, and 9.4% respectively. The antimicrobials that showed the highest percentage of resistance were penicillin with 96.6% and erythromycin with 67.8%. Conclusions: the positive coagulase staphylococcus showed high resistance to beta-lactams and macrolides, the highest isolation of this microorganism was obtained in samples of secretions, being the internal medicine service where the highest number of isolates was reported to this agent.
