ABSTRACT
Helicobacter pylori is a spiral Gram negative bacteria that colonize
more than 50% of world population. This infection is acquired at an
early age primarily by oral-oral or fecal-oral routes. In Mexico 5-9
year-old age group has a prevalence of 43% and in adult population
the prevalence is 70-90%. H. pylori infection has a direct relationship
with gastroduodenal ulcer development, gastric cancer,
gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue and colon, as well as
various extraintestinal manifestations.
Helicobacter pylori was described
by Robin Warren and Barry Marshall in 1982, They won the
Medicine Nobel Prize in 2005. The aim of this paper is to describe
the case of a patient who developed anemia syndrome and thrombocytosis
secondary to Helicobacter pylori infection, and review
current concepts related to this interesting association.
