ABSTRACT
Introduction: The sacrum is a structure where several pathologic entities may be found, either focally or as part of a systemic process. Sometimes, lytic tumors in the sacrum may be overseen in x-rays. Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance (MRI) enable an easier detection and characterization of such tumors.
Materials and methods: In this review we shall analyze common tumoral lesions in the sacrum that cause bone destruction, which we have divided into benign and malignant lesions.
Conclusion: Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance are useful in identifying, localizing and characterizing lesions that cause sacrum osteolysis. Being familiar with this sort of lesions not only increases the radiologist’s ability to provide a more specific diagnosis, by also contributes to a better handling of the patient.
