Treatment with electron beam radiation therapy plus strontium-90 of epidermoid carcinoma of bulbar conjunctiva persistent to surgery

ABSTRACT

We report the case of a 71-year-old female patient with a residual tumor lesion after the surgical resection of an invasive squamous cell carcinoma in the region of the bulbar conjunctiva of the left eye, with extension towards the medial canthus and adjacent cornea. She received radiation treatment in two phases: the first with electrons 6 MeV, total dose 6000 cGy in 20 fractions; after a rest of two weeks, a second phase with strontium-90, 500 REPS, 3000 REPS. At the end of the treatment, no evidence of macroscopic lesion was found.
