ABSTRACT
Objective. To evaluate the presence of bacteria in microscopic examination of non-centrifuged urine as an indicator of significant bacteriuria.
Material and methods. 182 urine samples were processed, taking 30 μL of each and proceeding with a Gram stain for microscopic examination, each sample had its respective urine culture.
Results. Compared with a culture ≥ 105 ufc/mL values of sensibility of 93.6% and specificity of 89.4% were obtained.
Conclusions. We conclude that the loop handle technique taking 30 μL of non-centrifuged urine can be used for a presumptive diagnosis of urine tract infection in the bacteriological practice.
