ABSTRACT
Latex allergy remains an important entity in medical practice around the world as anaphylaxis that can develop secondarily often increases morbidity and in severe cases leads to death.
Material and methods: A cross-sectional, analytical study of 300 patients who were applied a measuring instrument (questionnaire) for detection of probable allergy to latex, which consisted of 10 questions related to risk factors was performed more frequently found in the literature to develop this condition. They were assigned a score to each question depending on the clinical weight reported in the bibliographic references to determine the score according to whether patients had alert, probability or potential allergy latex allergy probability. This measuring instrument to all patients 1 was applied to 17 years of age, of both sexes, to be submitted to anesthetic procedure either on a schedule or emergency, from any service, with ASA I to III, They did not have an established diagnosis of latex allergy, while inpatient or outpatient basis.
Results: The results yielded clinically the possibility to detect patients with probable allergic to latex. With the presence of red flags to this pathology we are allowed to take appropriate measures to medical personnel in charge of the management of these patients.
Conclusion: Latex allergy is an entity that intentionally must be sought prior to the surgical event. The application of directed questions to dismiss or affirm likely presentation is required and must implement a measuring instrument, as in this case was the questionnaire to capture these patients and give them a management peri-appropriate operative, with all clothing and equipment be suspected.
