This article shows how sociologists incorporate the emotional
dimension for understanding protest. Sharing with other
disciplines the socio-cultural approach to emotion, the study of
social movements and protest stands out because of empirical
analysis and case studies.
The aim of this paper is to share the achievements, progress
and future challenges of this application of socio-cultural
approach of emotions for understanding the experiences of
protest and social movements, showing through an empirical
case -the participation in the march in solidarity with Ayotzinapa
on 26 September 2015, during which we made 70 interviews
with participants-, how emotions are analyzed in this field of
study, and how the analysis of the emotional dimension of
protest contributes to the comprehension of these experiences.
In particular, the text revolves around three questions: How
emotions are analyzed in social movements literature? How
contributes the analysis of the emotional dimension in the study
of protest and social movements? And finally, how the
emotional dimension allows comprehending participation in the
march on September 26?
