ABSTRACT
Objective: To describe the main electrocardiographic manifestations observed during the acute phase of ischemic cerebrovascular disease.Methos: Prospective cross-sectional descriptive study of 132 patients admitted to the Intermediate Care Unit of the General Teaching Hospital “Vladimir Ilich Lenin”, province of Holguín, with ischemic cerebrovascular diseases from February 2013 to February 2015.
Results: Male 59.1% predominated. The main risk factor 84.8% was hypertension, followed by ischemic heart disease 34.8% and diabetes mellitus 22.7%. The sample presented a 33.3% of antecedents and complicated the 57,6%. The most frequent electrocardiographic disorder secondary to cerebral ischemic injury was sinus tachycardia 34.8% followed by extra systoles 21.2%.
Conclusions: The male sex and the existence of previous heart disease are a predisposing factor to the appearance of defined complications of cardiovascular alterations during the acute phase of the stroke. High blood pressure is the main modifiable risk factor for ischemic cerebrovascular disease in both the carotid and vertebrobasilar axes. Patients with stroke of the carotid artery have a greater risk of suffering cardiovascular alterations during the acute phase than patients with vertebrobasilar vertebral stroke. The main rhythm disturbances found in the studied patients were sinus tachycardia, ventricular extra systoles and auricular extra systoles.
