ABSTRACT
Background: The human intestine’s microbiota prevents the presence of pathogens, and it is involved in metabolic and immune system modulation. Fecal microbiota transplant is a procedure that requires a standardization process regarding donor selection. Problem: There is not a standardized method for donor selection in microbiota fecal transplant. Objectives: To analyze the methods of donor selection in past procedures (laboratory test/physical examination/questionnaires) in order to propose and develop a standardization protocol for donor screening. Design: Access to the internal computer network of medical records at ABC Hospital, Mexico. To develop a retrospective analysis of fecal microbiota transplant receptor records and donor selection methods. To perform a standardized protocol for donor selection. Results: Four fecal microbiota transplant procedures have been developed since 2013; the screening method was only through laboratory tests and none considered a method of screening for donors. Conclusions: Due to the lack of a standardized donor selection process, implementation of a questionnaire as a method of screening donors is necessary, as mentioned by R. Collen. Recommendations: A questionnaire aimed at the detection of the main risk factors associated with fecal microbiota transplant was developed.REFERENCES
