ABSTRACT
Introduction: Pulmonary hypertension increases the risk of complications after cardiac surgery.
Objective: To determine the association between several variables and perioperative events in patients with pulmonary hypertension due to valve disease, from January 2010 to December 2012.
Methods and results: we conducted a cohort study with two groups, 73 patients with valve disease and pulmonary hypertension and 70 patients without pulmonary hypertension. The group with pulmonary hypertension was more risk to perioperative mortality (OR=3.54; p=0.049). The prolonged bypass time, a reduce ejection fraction and a previous renal disease were the variables associated to perioperative complications in the pulmonary hypertension group.
Conclusions: The patients who suffer from pulmonary hypertension are vulnerable to complications during perioperative period of valve heart disease surgery. The most important variables associated to bad prognosis are prolonged bypass time, a reduce ejection fraction and previous renal dysfunction.
