ABSTRACT
Introduction: Bilateral striopallidodentate calcinosis or Fahr
disease is a neurodegenerative disease of varied clinical spectrum, in
which the manifestations of cerebellar dysfunction have been poorly
described.
Case report: A young adult man presented with cerebellar ataxia
and recurrent respiratory infections, in which a swallowing disorder
is demonstrated.
Conclusions: It is concluded that the manifestations of cerebellar
dysfunction interfere with swallowing mechanism favoring the
recurrence of aspiration pneumonia.
