Physical activity in overweight adult women

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Sedentarism is associated to obesity and is one of the 10 fundamental
causes of death and handicap throughout the world. The behavior of this issue in
overweight adult women is unknown.
Objective: To determine the type of physical activity and time devoted to its practice by overweight adult women.
Methods: A descriptive, retrospective and transverse study was made on 39 patients
accomplishing with the inclusion criteria. They were admitted in the Endocrinology
Service of "Dr. Salvador Allende" Hospital from June to August 2014. Variables used
were: age, weight, height, body mass index, waist circumference, type of physical
activity and time used average. The short version of IPAQ was applied. Average,
maximum and minimum of the variables were determined.
Results: Average: age 38 years, body mass index 36.1 Kg/m2, waist circumference
103.5 cm, intense physical activity 1 day/week and 12 minutes/day, moderate
physical activity 2 days/week and 42 minutes/day, 8 hours/day sitting.
Conclusions: Patients classified as obese and sedentary, with the time devoted to
physical activity in less values than those recommended.
