ABSTRACT
Introduction. Liver transplantation (LT) has been proposed as an
effective treatment for several acute and chronic diseases with excellent
outcomes in centers with experience.
Objective. To review
the current state of LT and future directions for clinical research
in our center.
Material and methods. Members of the Committee
on Liver Transplantation reviewed the literature to describe the
current status on LT.
Results. Patients with liver disease must be
extensively evaluated to determine if there is any contraindication
to perform LT. As a high specialty and complex procedure LT could
present any complication, which would be medical, endoscopically,
intervensionism or surgical treated.
Conclusions. LT is the best
therapeutic approach for definitive treatment of liver insufficiency;
an essential task for the transplant team is to spread information
about organ donation and transplantation.
