ABSTRACT
Quite often, the scars secondary to a cleft lip repair are not satisfactory and require surgical and medical treatment. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the efficacy of injecting dexamethasone into the hypertrophic scars secondary to a cleft lip repair. In a series of 210 patients who underwent primary cleft lip repair, there were 12 patients who developed hypertrophic scars which did not respond to scar massage. Dexamethasone was injected in all 12. The results of this treatment were documented after physical examination and photographed. The intralesional injection of long lasting dexamethasone helps correct hypertrophic scars secondary to a primary lip repair. Long lasting dexamethasone is an effective medication for the treatment of these scars.REFERENCES
