ABSTRACT
Objective: to determine the prevalence
of adherence of hypertensive patients
in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, from
January to April 2011.
Methods: observational,
descriptive and cross-sectional
study. 322 patients, attending the Mexican
Social Security Institute (imss), assigned
to the Family Medicine Unit
no. 33 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, were
surveyed with diagnosis of Systemic Arterial
Hypertension (sah), between 20 to
69 years old and with previous informed
signed consent. Blood pressure was
taken after 10 minutes of their arrival
to the clinic and 10 minutes later. After
that, the Matin-Bayarre-Grau questionnaire
was applied.
Results: 39% (126
patients) had total adherence to the
treatment, 59% (190) had partial adherence
and 2% had no adherence; 62.4%
of the patients had less than 10 years
hypertension.
Conclusions: therapeutic
adherence can be improved and therefore,
Systemic Arterial Hypertension
control in order to reduce complications
of the disease in the long run.
