Prevalences in use of licit and illicit drugs in Students from Higher Education Institution in Boyacá, Colombia

ABSTRACT
The use of licit and illicit drugs is a phenomenon that is continually changing and manifests differently in population groups. The historical evolution of consumption in the world, has shown that young people constitute the most vulnerable group to initiate and develop addictive behaviors with physical, psychological, emotional and social implications of relevance in our society. Drug use among students of the institution, tends to follow the behavior reported in other university contexts; however, it is a phenomenon subject to constant changes that motivate the investigative persistence, for both prevention and intervention decisions must conform to current panorama diagnosis in each stage of consumption. Objective: To describe the use of licit and illicit drugs in students from a Higher Education Institution. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional quantitative study, the product of a collaboration agreement with the University of Veracruz (Mexico). Stratified random sampling for a population size of 5205 undergraduate students was conducted. The information was collected from 573 students; the instrument used is CODEU designed by Beverido et al in 2012, as a result of an authorized adaptation of a 2007 UNAM Student Questionnaire designed by Villatoro et al (2007). Results: The prevalence of life for the consumption of psychoactive substances (SPA) reported as the highest in the study are, in descending order of alcohol 94%, energy drinks73%, marijuana 19%. The lower prevalence of hallucinogens life is 7%, tranquilizers 5%, amphetamines 3%, cocaine 3%, methamphetamine 1%, inhalants 1%, bazuco 0.2%; no heroin was reported.REFERENCES
