Presentation of a neonate with liver abscess

ABSTRACT

In the neonatal period liver abscess is uncommon; its prognosis is generally poor. A male neonate, late preterm good weight, with a single liver abscess was diagnosed clinically and ultrasonographically at fifteen days old, secondary to umbilical venous catheterization, performed for an exchange transfusion due to isoimmunization Rh was presented. Clinical, ultrasonography evolution as well as antimicrobial therapy used was described. No surgical drainage was performed.
