ABSTRACT
The authors define the concepts of active smoker, involuntary smoker, passive exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), CS = smoke mixture which results from the combustion of the tobacco product (pipe, cigarette, cigar or charut), SFEAF = smoke flow expelled by the active smoker, CS + SFEAS + airborne biomass = ETS, ETS composition, ETS exposure, ETS exposure risk, effects of ETS on collective health: on healthy adults, in child development (before and after birth) in pregnant women and family members. In addition, the authors discuss the impact of the active smoker on the household, work and study environment and on public places.
