ABSTRACT
The high prevalence of thyroid nodules and the popularization of imaging studies, make its detection more often. Its features generated the need for a classification that shows it chance of being malignant. Using the model of breast imaging (BI-RADS), the TIRADS (same as going from 1 to 5, with 1 being typically benign and 5 malignant) was designed. Likewise, there is a pathological classification (Bethesda System), which typical lineage of thyroid lesions. Experience in a private hospital in the conduct and results of cytopathology patients who were referred to the Department of Imaging to perform biopsies fine needle aspiration (FNA) is presented and compared with the results of the global literature.
