ABSTRACT
Currently it is known that atopic dermatitis is a disease in which the barrier function is altered and this disfunction is genetically determined. Clinically, this translates into an intensely itchy and inflamed skin, that allows the penetration of irritants and allergens, and predisposes to colonization and infection by specific microorganisms. The role of vitamin D among the various etiological factors has been emphasized in recent years. Is considered to be associated with the risk of atopic dermatitis and severity of this. Such an association is suggested by recent epidemiological and experimental data. In this review, we analyze evidence about this controversial relationship, emphasizing the possible pathogenetic mechanisms involved.
